5 simple snacks to help you power through your day

When days are hectic, a smart and strategic snack can help keep you energized and ready to rock through your to-do list. Here are some of my favorites to keep in your back pocket (or in your office desk drawer):

1) Apple + Nut butter (or Sunflower Butter)

Any nut butter will do the trick -- peanut butter, almond butter, or cashew butter, just look for a natural variety without any hydrogenated or palm oils. I highly recommend  RxBar's vanilla almond butter because it tastes like a sweet treat without any added sugar.

2)  Roasted Chickpeas

Make these pop-able treats at home, or reach for a stash of Biena's Roasted Chickpea packs-- they come in delicious flavors like sea salt, ranch, and barbecue....they are so good!

3) Avocado + "Everything but the bagel seasoning"

If you've got an avocado, then you've got a heart-healthy snack. Slice this green fruit (yep, it's actually a fruit) in half, sprinkle on some Trader Joe's "Everything But the Bagel" seasoning, then grab your spoon and dig in.

4) DIY Trail Mix

Trail mix is always a terrific on-the-go option. I create a snack-stash made with almonds, walnuts, light popcorn, and pumpkin seeds. No utensils required.

5) Greek Yogurt + Berries

This mini meal is always a safe bet because it's packed with protein and fiber. Choose a Greek yogurt with less than 10 grams of sugar (I like Siggi's and Chobani's "Less Sugar"), then top it with raspberries, blueberries or strawberries.
